Republicans won. Americans lost.

Thanks to the Republican and Democratic parties failing to compromise on the spending bills, the US government is now experiencing a historical partial shutdown. Basing on the incident, I believe all parties should have tried to avoid government shutdowns by all means. However the biggest blame should be put on the Republicans.

The Republicans made use of the federal funds opportunity to make a last attempt to block the execution of Obamacare. Perhaps it may be a wise act politically, but in terms of ethics and thoughtfulness, it was clearly a bad move.  Social issues should be handled separately, it is selfish to make use of such an important stage just to fight for own interests of postponing a health policy. Although the allocation of funding may be related, but it is more appropriate to raise the issue as an adjustment after passing the spending laws.

Subsequently, using the dominant power to over rule and control decisions would have a negative spill over effect of setting a bad example- will any dominant group hijack any conference again if decisions weren’t made against their will?

As a result of this act, the US economy suffered a great hit- many tourists spots were closed, directly affecting the income generated from tourism; the halt of public services and resources reduced the daily revenues; without significant production, the stock market is going to experience a drop, these should have reflected the unbearable consequences that affects the  whole business community. Hopefully similar cases could be avoided in the near future.
